Notes from Steve Hitch (10/22/2000): Helen Joanne Hitch was born in a house on Harrison Street in Frankfort Indiana on March 9, 1928 to William Hiram and Olive (Patchett) Gunion. Her father died when she was three and she was taken into a foster home of Jessi and Bessi Pollet where she was raised until adulthood. Siblings were: Sisters Delores, Viola Jane and Mary Ellen and a brother William Hiram Jr. who died as an infant. Attended Jackson Township School through the 11th Grade Lived at Harrison St, Foster parents farm on Boone Clinton County Line Road Southwest corner of Clinton Co., North Clay Street after leaving the farm, North Main street, South Jackson St., Bunnell Street West Washington Street, several places in Kokomo Indiana, West Morrison St., Central Ave., West Jefferson St., and Mckinley Ave. where she now resides. Hobbies: Cooking, gardening, Home enterior, Knitting and watching her Indiana Hoosier basketball team. Devoted entirely to her Husband and kids. Pets: As a child on the farm her horse Fanny, dog Billy and numerous other dogs and cats. As an adult Mickey (German Shepherd) and Queeny (Spitz) Occupations: Worked at National cigar for a brief time, Woolworths 5 & 10, Bon Merits Drug Store (where she met her husband), Sold Avon door to door, Schulz Grocery as a check out clerk and in the meat department, Dairy Queen and Hooks Drugs Store where she retired."

Helen married Kenneth James Hitch, son of Ernest Ray Hitch and Lois Victoria Jewell, on 18 Dec 1946 in Frankfort, Clinton Co., IN.^{1 2} (Kenneth James Hitch was born on 13 Apr 1926 in Geetingsville, IN ^{1 3} and died on 02 Mar 2009 in Frankfort, Clinton Co., IN.)
