From "A Hitch Orchard", Daisy Hitch Davies, 1931: "Ebenezer Delano Hitch was a sailmaker. He was one of the many Forty-Niners who sailed from Fairhaven, MA. to California. He never returned to Massachusetts and died many years ago. His wife was a very lovely woman."

In the Federal Census of 1850, Ebenezer Hitch is indicated on page 161 in Fairhaven, Bristol County, Massachusetts (household 40) as follows: - Ebenezer Hitch, age 31, sailmaker, born in MA - Lydia W. Hitch, age 28, born in MA.

In the Federal Census of 1860, Ebenezer Hitch is indicated on page 579 in Township 2, Contra Costa County, California in the household of Nathaniel Howard as follows: - Nathaniel Howard, age 46, farmer, born in MA - Elizabeth Howard, age 35, born in MA - Lizzie A.
