Notes:

On-line genealogy (Ancestry.com) shows this family to be Samuel and Lydia Lapham, I believe based upon U.S. Military Pension Records in Massachusetts. However, those same records, if viewed closely show that Samuel Lapham died on Feb 26 1858, thus disproving that hypothesis (this James Edward Lapham was alive at least until just after the 1870 OH Census was taken). Further proof is that the Samuel Lapham of the on-line genealogy was born 1799 where this James Lapham was born no earlier than 1806 even by the most lenient of census data.

James married Lydia Beckwith, daughter of Sylvester Beckwith and Mahala (?), on 08 Feb 1835 in Geauga Co., OH. (Lydia Beckwith was born in 1819-1820 in OH,⁴ ⁵ ⁶ died on 11 May 1898 in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor, Lake Co., OH and was buried about 14 May 1888 in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor, Lake Co., OH.)
