A portrait Shannon Chester found shows his birth date in 1897 (and his gravestone) but both his WWI and WWII draft records show he was born May 27, 1895 in Worcester Co., MD. It is likely the latter is correct and the 1897 date was erroneously applied by relatives later in life.

He was a Private in WWI and then a Private First Class as of Aug 31 1918. He was honorably discharged on Jul 8 1919. He was overseas from Aug 31 1918 to Jun 28 1919. His decorations included the Order of St. Sava (Serbian).

In 1950, he is listed as a "capper" in a food production job.
