Priscilla Laws

Robert Houston's wife, Priscilla, is probably his last of at least two wives. She appears to be a Laws, the d/o John Laws who mentions her as "daughter Prisilah Houston and the two heirs of her body" to get 1/5th part of remainder of his estate. This indicates that there were only two living (unnamed) blood heirs of Priscilla in March 1790 when Laws wrote his will. Priscilla mentions a total of four daughters in her will in 1814 and one son (Liston Houston). We do not know which, if any, of these heirs of Robert Houston are blood children of Priscilla. Some genealogies on Ancestry claim Robert had an earlier wife, Mary Purnell but this compiler cannot verify that as being correct.

1. Priscillah Houston --granddaughter (daughter of Liston A. Houston), to have the 2 of a bond both principal and interest due from Liston A. Houston to be paid her when she arrives at the age of 18 years
2. Sally Carlisle -granddaughter; to have 1 cow and 2 of her increase now in the possession of her father Charles Carlisle and also to have the bed and furn. on which the testatrix is now lying -- except the curtains
3. Eliza Cary -granddaughter; to have the cattle and all the property the testatrix purchased at a sheriff's sale at Nehemiah Cary's
4. Sarah Collins, Elizabeth Cary, Priscillah Carlisle, Nancy Hall (all as daughters); remainder of the estate to be divided among them
5. Liston A. Houston -son; named executor of the will
Witnesses: Mary Elliott, Sarah Polk, John Cary
Then came: Sarah Polk and Dr. John Cary Note: the testatrix signed the will in her own hand
Priscilla married Robert Houston, son of John Houston and Rhoda Townsend. (Robert Houston was born about 1737 in Somerset Co., MD and died between 23 Jan 1788 and 25 Feb 1788 in Sussex Co., DE.)
