"Gorman Brittingham, Jr.

Salisbury - G. Gorman Brittingham Jr., age 93, died peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017, in the presence of his loving daughter, Terry, at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, Maryland. Born on January 28, 1924, in Powellville, he was the son of Grover Gorman Brittingham and Dollie Rayne Brittingham. He is survived by the love of his life Elizabeth Dryden Brittingham, his wife of 69 years; 3 children and spouses; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a special niece Patsy and her husband Joe Pylypczuk; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia B. Dennis.

A graduate of Wicomico High School; he took over the family farm at age 16; due to his father's failing health. Gorman was a lifelong farmer and poultry grower. His prize accomplishment was growing strawberries for the commercial market. This evolved into a pick your own operation, which became known as 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. Gorman was Maryland's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1956, and represented Maryland at the National Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. He had the distinction of owning 3 farms, 2 of which were in his family for over 100 years and honored by the State of Maryland as Designated Century Farms.

Gorman was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of the Powellville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Powellville Ruritan Club for 53 years and was the last surviving Charter Member. He was also a member of Wicomico Lodge AF & AM #91 and Wicomico Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #91. In addition he was member of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau, Delmarva Poultry Industry, and the Board of Directors of Farmers Bank of Willards from 1974 to 2009 and Emeritus Member until his passing.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, from 6-8 PM at Holloway Funeral Home, PA in Salisbury. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 11 AM at Holloway Funeral Home, PA in Salisbury. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Glenn T. Dryden and Kevin Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Wicomico Nursing Home for their excellent and dedicated care; and Dr. Mahesha Thimmarayappa for his compassion and kindness. We would also like to recognize his faithful friends, Melvin Jones and Andy Bouma.
