He had moved to Wilmington, DE by 1868 when he is listed in the city directory. with his brother Daniel C. Hitch. A brief obituary appears for him in the Mar 10 1906 edition of the Denton Journal (Denton, MD). His death certificate says he was a railroad conductor and widower and died on Mar 4 1906 of heart disease only 3 days after his brother, Daniel C. Hitch.

IN his wife, Margaret's, obituary he is described as one of the best known conductors on the Delaware Railroad.
