Excerpt of a letter dated September 21, 1901 from Marcus Hitch, lawyer, Reaper Block, Chicago, IL. (This is from "A Hitch Orchard" by Daisy Hitch Davies, 1931)

"My great grandfather was Spencer Hitch of Sussex Co., DE. I have before me a certified copy of his will dated Feb. 5, 1797 and is witnessed by William Mason adm. Gillis Hitch. At the time of his death, he owned a farm upon which has since been built, the town of Bridgeville, DE. which you will find is a railroad station in the southern part of Delaware. This farm he gave by his will to one of his sons also named Spencer Hitch and there was subsequently considerable litigation over the construction of this will after the land had increased in value by becoming a town site.

No doubt you have access to the Supreme Court Reports of the state of Delaware. If you will look at the case of Hitch vs. Patten, 8 Delaware 334, you will find details about my great grandfather's family and estate --- My father moved from Delaware first to Ohio and later to Pike Co., in the western part of Illinois where I was born and raised.

I have some distant relatives near Bloomington, IL., engaged in the woolen manufacturing business under the name of Reeves and Hitch. - I have nine living children ----"
