There was a Burgess Hitch, son of Nathan Hitch who received property of his father when it was divided in 1817. Burgess Hitch was also implied in John Barbee's will as a son-in-law. There was also a Garner B. Hitch who was born in Virginia about 1795. Given this and the fact that Nathaniel Hitch (also of Nathan) moved to Missouri may point to the conclusion that Garner B. and Burgess Hitch were the same person. This was later proven true as Garner B. Hitch and Burgess Hitch, the same person, are mentioned in father-in-law John Barbee's will.

According to the War of 1812 Pension Index in the National Archives, Washington, DC, Garner B. Hitch was Private in Captain J. Payne's Co. of the Virginia Militia in that conflict. He enlisted on August 1, 1814 and was discharged on September 25, 1814. He was also a Private in Bramham's 41st Regiment of the Virginia Militia.

1830 Census: 1300020000000-1010010000000 in Fauquier Co., VA.
