Dorothy Blackburn Grandel Born July 25, 1917. Age 81. Of Linden Knoll Condominiums, died July 5, 1999 at Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Grandel was a homemaker. She graduated from Wilmington High School. She attended Beebe Hospital School of Nursing and Goldey-Beacom College. Mrs. Grandel worked for the department of registration at election time at the polls for 36 years. She was a member of First and Central Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She was a member of Sears Retirement Club, a member of Mended Hearts and a member of the Music for Life group at Wilmington Piano Company, where she started taking organ lessons at age 80. Mrs. Grandel enjoyed playing the organ in spite of crippling arthritis in her hands. She also enjoyed reading, watching TV, knitting, swimming and doing word puzzles. Mrs. Grandel is survived by her husband George W. Grandel, Jr.; her son Edward B. Grandel; her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Grandel; a grandson, Troy E. Grandel; 3 great grandchildren, Katharine, Eileen and Samuel, all of Wilmington; a step great granddaughter, Leona of Newark, plus a cousin, Nina Ware of Miami, FL. A viewing will be held at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike in Hockessin, on Thursday, July 8, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, July 9 at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation, Delaware Chapter. [published 07/08/1999]
