On Nov 21 1816, the Somerset County Orphans Court Proceedings mentions "Stephen Collins and Whittington Polk to pay Stephen Dykes who intermarried with widow of John Hitch" It also states, "Stephen Dykes, guardian to Joshua W. Hitch." (SoOCP-1811/23:70)
In the 1800 and 1820 Federal Census, Jane Hitch is listed as age 26-45 for both. This would put her birth circa 1774. Jane married John Hitch, son of Joshua A. Hitch and Mary (Molly) Taylor, on 23 Jan 1797 in Somerset Co., MD. (John Hitch was born before 1778 in Somerset Co., MD and died on 29 Oct 1803-07 Feb 1804 in Somerset Co., MD.)
SoMR. Jane next married Stephen Dykes about 1807. (Stephen Dykes died before 10 Aug 1824 in Somerset Co., MD 1.) |
