The following is from a family history sent to me by Stephen J. Hitch of Kent, WA in 1997: "Harvey Carol Hitch married Marie Martha Zaat in Everett, WA July 13, 1935. Marie was born Dec. 25, 1915 in Sunnydale, WA. They met at Everett High School when they were both students. After Harve graduated he and Marie sent notes back and forth through Harve's sister, Joyce. Harve worked at Robinson's Lumber Mill in Everett while attending high school and he also served in the Washington National Guard.

After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army and made it his career. Harve was the only Hitch sibling with musical talent. He somehow managed to get a used mandolin and taught himself how to play. He later replaced his first instrument with a newer model. At family gatherings we often had sing alongs. Uncle John played the guitar, Bus the violin, Harve the mandolin and Wayne (Bus' brother) played the harmonica and the bones. Their music made the gatherings more festive. Their first home was on Peck's Drive in South Everett but Harve's army career moved them across the country. When Harve was on overseas duty his family would be waiting in the Everett or Seattle area. They sold their Everett home and bought a larger home on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. Several family gatherings were held in that home and also their next home in the Greenwood area in North Seattle. This was their last family home.

In 1948, Harve had a cancer operation on his stomach and bladder. In the fall of 1957 the cancer flared up again affecting his liver. He died August 1, 1958 and is buried at Fort Lawton in North Seattle.

Marie was a Homemaker, but after Harve passed away she worked in the Ballard High School Cafeteria. Marie died December 3, 1990 and is buried at Fort Lawton in North Seattle."
