bullet  Notes:

*Uncertain connection for this Thomas Driskell to father Benjamin Driskell - however, there seem to be two (2) Thomas Driskells who were orphaned in the 1820s in Worcester. One is possibly this Thomas Driskell and the other Thomas Stanford Drikell, son of Aaron Driskell. For the latter, the records actually state that Thomas is son of Aaron, with guardian assigned as David S. Driskell. For the other, we see Thomas Driskell bound, with the consent of his mother (no father named) to Ambrose Dixon for the trade of farming in Feb 1823. Two months earlier, we see Joshua Driskell, orphan of Benjamin, assigned guardian Benjamin Driskill - two Benjamin Driskills, one of which died c1822. We have two other orphans, Sheppard and Jane Driskill in the same timeframe, bound out to trades. This is somewhat compelling evidence that Thomas Driskell is son of Benjamin Driskill who died c1822 in Worcester Co., MD but, why was Thomas not named as an orphan of Benjamin at the same time Joshua Driskell was? There was another Thomas Driskell who had married Priscilla Twilly on Aug 8 1815 and he had died about 1822 - was he the uncle of this Thomas? He probably was not the father of this one since we definitively know our Thomas here was born in Dec 1814. It could be that Thomas here should be linked in the Shadrach Driskell lineage.

Orphan's court records for Feb 1823 state, Thomas Driskill, an orphan child, by consent of his mother, age 8 on December last, indentured to Ambrose Dixon for farming until he reaches age 21, with sureties by Edward Round and Elijah Hearn (WoOCP-MH28:26)

We know Thomas Driskell and Mollie Dykes are parents of Hettie (Driskell) Hitch (from Hettie's death certificate). Driskell is variously noted as Driskell, Driskill, Driscoll and even Dusky over the years. In the 1850 Census, the Thomas Driskell family is in a household in Worcester Co., MD as:

Thomas Driskell, age 34
Mary D. Driskell, age 35
Hester A. Driskell, age 5
William S. Driskell, age 2
Mary E. Driskell, age 5 months.

The household comes between those of Mary Smith (age 70) and Elijah Parsons (age 71). Interestingly, there is another Thomas Driskell, age 23, living nearby.

Thomas married Mollie Dykes, daughter of Michael Hayman* Dykes and Nancy Denston, about 1843. (Mollie Dykes was born in 1815-1817 in MD 3 4 and died in 1861-1869 in MD.)
