Mary E. Hitch

This Mary Hitch is an uncertain daughter of Louther and Lucinda (Motes) Hitch. However, given that she names a son and a daughter Luther and Lucinda is very compelling. Also, the 1820 Census establishes the fact that Louther and Lucinda Hitch had a daughter that was "under age 10" at the time. Given the age of the parents, however, we can assume that Mary Hitch was born circa 1818-1820. This would put her at prime marrying age in 1838 when she would have married Jesse Cook. Based upon all this evidence, the confidence level is high that this Mary Hitch is correctly positioned.

Mary married Jesse Spencer Cook, son of Jarrett Cook and Margaret Morrow, about 1838 in Laurens Co., SC. (Jesse Spencer Cook was born in 1811-1814 in SC and died in 1880 in AL.)
