Laura Alice (Hitch) Bogar
Posted Sep 4, 2003
Laura went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 30, 2003 at her home in Onalaska, WA. Laura was born in Max, NE on March 4, 1915, the oldest child of Charles John Hitch and Rosa Henrietta Victoria (Brynoff) Hitch. She moved to Lewis County in Sept. 1934, shortly thereafter meeting and marrying John Wickliffe Bogar on Dec. 24, 1935. Wickliffe preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1984. Also preceding her in death were two grandsons, Robert and Johnny Dupree and two great-grandsons Joshua Locken and Samuel Rooney, who have waited for Grandma to join them in heaven. Laura is survived by four daughters and one son: Evelyn Jean (Duane) Lafrombois of Kent, Ella Irene Sandoval of Seattle, Elizabeth Elaine (Betty) Dupree of Winlock, Ethel Marie (Jerry) Strickland of Sumner, and John Dallas (Phyllis) Bogar of Onalaska; and 29 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 8 great- great grandchildren. Also surviving her are two sisters and one brother: Blanche Nelson of Cinebar, Mardelle Hadaller of Ethel and Ralph Hitch of Renton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Laura. Laura was a devout Christian and was a member of the Onalaska Presbyterian Church where she faithfully attended until Alzheimer's took over her mind in recent years. Laura will be remembered for her love and devotion to her children and all the babies that came after. She had a green thumb that wouldn't quit. She great beautiful flowers and wonderful vegetables, entering them in the Southwest Washington Fair for years as a member of the "Know Your Neighbor" club. She was a wonderful cook whose pie crust would melt in your mouth. The family would like to thank the caretakers who gave such great care of their mother. And a special thank you to her daughter Betty who unselfishly looked after our mother with total devotion. Remembrances may be made to the Visiting Nurses or the Onalaska Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the Onalaska Presbyterian Church. She will be buried at the Alpha Cemetery beside her beloved husband of 49 years. A celebration of life will follow at the Ethel Grange. Services are under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock.
