This is a photograph taken in the late 1880s of Elizabeth Hitch of Clark County, Indiana. She was born January 12, 1851 and died in 1939. She was an Aunt to Naomi (Hitch) Mitchell of Jeffersonville, Indiana who describes her "Aunt Lizzie" as, "This was, Aunt Lizzie, Elizabeth, Hitch. She was a dressmaker and pieced and quilted beautiful quilts, all by hand. She was a charter member of the Methodist Church, sang in the choir, was the President of Ladies Aide and, I loved her!!" This is a fitting tribute to who what must have been a very fine lady.
This is a picture of some of the older Hitches from Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1914. This came from Harold Donovan Hitch's collection where he identified the people as follows: BACK ROW: James Harry Hitch (1855-1941), William Shakespeare Hitch (1850-1927), Robert Pepper (s/o Mary Ann Hitch Wright & Alex Pepper, 1854-1940), Benjamin Hardy Hitch (of G.J. and E.J. Hitch, 1844-1934), Thomas Pitts Hitch (of Henry P. Hitch, 1834-1924), Edgar Moore (of A.D. & Rebecca Hitch Moore, 1849-1920). FRONT ROW: Martha (Mattie) Fields (of Newton & Emma Hitch Fields, 1864-1948), Martha (Mattie) Muir (Hitch) Marshall (of Robert & Abigail Hitch, 1853-1938), Laura Pepper (of Mary Ann Hitch Wright & Alex Pepper, 1856-1942), Frances Minerva (Hitch) Houston (of G.J. and E.J. Hitch, 1836-1922).
This is a favorite of mine. It was sent to me by Charles E. Hitch of Billings, Montana and shows the John Quinlan Hitch Family circa December 1898. Note the 45-star flag of the United States in the background and Victorian era wallpaper, etc. To me, this picture captures the essence of life around the turn of the century. Pictured left to right are Dorris Nelson Hitch (1887-1983), John Quinlan Hitch (1856-1934), Alberta Chowner, Cora Clifton (Jessup) Hitch (1866-1951), infant John Laurence Hitch (1898-1918), and Charlotte (Quinlan) Hitch (1828-1899).
This another picture of the John Quinlan Hitch Family - this time from about 1893. It shows John Quinlan Hitch (1856-1934), Dorris Nelson Hitch (1887-1983), and Cora Clifton (Jessup) hitch (1866-1951).
This picture was on the front of a postcard dated May 5, 1911 from Lillian Robinson of Perintown, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. J.Q. Hitch of Champaign, Illinois. It shows James F. Hitch (1829-aft 1911) and his grandsons Franklin M. (1908-??) and James Robert Wiseman (1909-??). James F. Hitch's daughter, Harriett L. Hitch (1876-??) married James Wiseman (1872-??) to produce these two boys. James F. Hitch was son of John Wesley Hitch (1794-1876) and Nancy Simmons (1793-1874). They all descend from the Adam Hitch line through descendant Thomas P. Hitch who moved from Maryland to Kentucky/Ohio.
