On August 15, 1891, John W. Hitch received a deed for 8 acres of land for $97 from Thomas C. Morris. Land was on the north side of the public road leading from Hooper McGrath's to Fruitland. (Wicomico Co. Land Records, Liber FMS7, Folio 453)

On August 18, 1891, John W. Hitch received a deed for 2 acres of land for $40 from John W. and Reno McGrath. Land is on the north side of the public road leading from Hooper McGrath's to Fruitland, adjoining the land of John Morris on the east and Thomas C. Morris on the north and west. This is the same land that John W. McGrath bought from Edward Christopher. (Ibid., Liber FMS7, Folio 452)

On November 6, 1891, John W. and Reno McGrath sold 7.6 acres of land to John W. Hitch for $65. It was on the south side of the road leading from Hooper McGrath's to Fruitland and adjoining lands of William P. Morris, Henry Robinson, George Pollitt and others. This is same land McGrath purchased from Edward Christopher. (Ibid., Liber FMS8, Folio 131)

On November 21, 1892, William P. and Mary C. Morris sold 4 acres of land to John W. Hitch for $33. Land was in Nutters District, part of tract devised to William P. Morris by his father James Morris on west side of the road from Elijah L. Shockley's to Elen R. Ward's adjoining Henry Robinson and John W. Hitch's land. (Ibid., Liber JTT9, Folio 447)

In the Federal Census of 1910, J.W. Hitch is listed in a household in the Nutters District, Wicomico County (on Lowe Road) as follows: - John W. Hitch, general farmer, age 39, married 18 years, born in MD (parents born in MD) - Susie C. Hitch, age 33, born in MD (parents born in MD) - Raymond A. In his Maryland Death Certificate, it states that John William Hitch was born July 24, 1870 in Worcester County, Maryland and died at 10:30 am of diabetes mellitus on May 29, 1947, age 76 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was buried at Fruitland Cemetery, Fruitland, Maryland on June 1, 1947. His father and mother were Samuel H. Hitch and Hettie Driscoll, both born in Worcester County, Maryland.
