Promoted to Commissary Sargeant on Mar 29 1863 "for meritous conduct in discharge of his duties". He was in the action at Westminster, MD on Jun 29 1863. He spent time in the hospital from May 30 1864 through some time in Jul 1864. He mustered out at the Relay House on the B&O RR on Jun 6 1865 and was owed a clothing allowance then of $19.65 and outstanding bounty of $75.00. His diary from the Civil War resides at the Delaware State Archives.
