Alton Telegraph January 1956

Edward Hitch, 71, who had been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, Alton, since October, died there at 8:12 a.m., Monday. He was born in Roodhouse, March 11, 1884, a son of the late William and Sarah Cooksey Hitch.

Mr. Hitch is survived by his widow, Mrs. Catherine Pilkington Hitch to whom he was married Sept 5, 1906, and three children, Clyde of Alton, Grover of Glen Burnie, MD., and Mrs. Gordon (Catherine) Mears of Rockford; two brothers, Harley of White Hall, and James of Woodson; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and Modern Woodmen of America. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, in Dawdy Funeral Home, followed by interment in White Hall Cemetery.
