Lived at 1007 S. Franklin Street, Wilmington, DE in 1900 (from census). In 1910 he was a conductor for the railroad.

Harry T. Shiles, 84, retired railroad man and a charter member of one of the first locals of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, died Friday morning in St. Francis Hospital where he had been a patient for a week. Services will be held Tuesday at the 3202 Market St. parlors of the McCrery Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening. A native of Wilmington, he was the husband of Mrs. Jennie Shiles, who died in 1915. He had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Katie G. Reed in Delmar. He was one of the founders of the Wilmington local of the trainmen's brotherhood. He retired from the Reading Railroad 15 years ago, and had worked on the railroad for 54 years. He is also survived by five other daughters, Mrs. Helen M. Elliott and Mrs. Florence Hitch, both of Wilmington; Mrs. Estelle Gooden, New Castle; Mrs. Orpha Rash, Richardson Park, and Mrs. Margaret Walker, Christiana, and one son, John Shiles, Wilmington Manor. He is survived also by 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Published in the Wilmington Sunday Star on November 1, 1953
